Lake Tanganyika is one of Africa’s great lakes. The lake is so large (second in the world) that it crosses the borders of four different countries and is home to over 300 different species of fish — of which 250 are cichlids. Cichlids from Lake Tanganyika are less vibrantly coloured than those from Africa’s Lake Malawi or South America’s Amazon River system, but they are still prized in the aquarium trade for their unusual appearance.
This beautiful collection of images was posted by an incredibly skilled aquarium keeper named Rick Hermans on cichlid-forum; an online forum claiming to be the largest and most popular website of its kind. They depict two aquariums that both exclusively feature Lake Tanganyika cichlids.
